Jaylen Warren’s two-year extension through 2027 makes him Pittsburgh’s clear lead back. Bettors should expect increased rushing- and receiving-yard props and higher fantasy ownership; sportsbooks may shorten his rushing total and anytime-touchdown lines while monitoring committee risk from rookie Kaleb Johnson and Kenneth Gainwell.
Jaylen Warren secured his future in Pittsburgh with a two-year contract extension that runs through the 2027 season, his agency Aura Sports Group announced. The deal includes $12 million guaranteed, signaling the Steelers’ commitment to Warren as their primary ball carrier heading into 2025.
Warren entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and quickly earned a roster spot after impressing in training camp. Over three seasons he worked his way from complementary role to the team’s starting running back after the Steelers declined Najee Harris’ fifth-year option and allowed him to leave in free agency.
A versatile runner known for pass protection, receiving ability and slippery speed, Warren owns a career average of 4.8 yards per carry and 7.0 yards per reception. Last season he was limited by injuries but still produced 511 rushing yards on 120 attempts with one rushing touchdown, plus 310 receiving yards on 38 catches across 15 regular-season games.
Warren’s snap share has climbed since his rookie season: roughly 31% as a rookie, then about 49% and 45% in the following two seasons as he split reps more evenly with Harris. The backfield now includes rookie third-round pick Kaleb Johnson and veteran Kenneth Gainwell, creating a committee element that could influence workload.
The guaranteed money and extension point to Warren as the short-term lead option, which should push rushing- and receiving-yard props higher and increase his fantasy draft stock. However, the presence of a rookie and a pass-catching back keeps some committee risk — bettors should monitor early-season snap splits and injury reports before placing season-long wagers.
